Welcome to the School of Business at Norfolk State
University. Norfolk State
University’s School of Business enrolls over 1,000 baccalaureate
students in eight areas of concentration: Accounting, Business Education,
Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Management Information
Systems, Marketing, and Tourism and Hospitality Management.
In many respects the School has distinguished itself among its
peers. Norfolk State
University’s School of Business was one of the first Historically Black
Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to be accredited by the nation’s
premier business
school accrediting body--the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business International (AACSB International).
Of the approximately 450 AACSB International accredited schools of
business throughout the world, fewer than 15 are HBCUs, and fewer than
five are undergraduate-only programs such as Norfolk State’s.
Our vision is to become a regional magnet for those seeking to
become business leaders of the future.
Our mission is to provide a high quality management education to a
diverse student population. A
faculty that is 80% terminally qualified provides this education.
Several other distinctions accrue to the NSU School of
Business: it has established a Center of Excellence in Entrepreneurship
and publishes the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, initially
funded by a grant from the prestigious Kauffman Foundation.
NSU’s Entrepreneurship program is, in fact, one of a very few in
the country offered as a major to undergraduate students.
NSU’s Accounting program routinely graduates stellar,
well-prepared students who are recruited by the big four accounting firms
as well as other Fortune 500 companies.
NSU’s Tourism and Hospitality program is the largest at any HBCU
and one of the most esteemed in the Eastern United States.
Also, highly-qualified students in other School of Business
programs secure senior-level positions in Finance, Management, Marketing,
and Information Systems/Technology in leading corporations in America and
attend premier graduate schools.
NSU’s School of Business houses the only undergraduate Business
Education teacher preparation program in the region, which has been a
primary resource for business teachers in Hampton Roads.
These strong programs may account for the fact that Norfolk State
University ranks in the top ten universities nationally for the number of
business degrees conferred upon African Americans.
It
is no wonder then that we are proud of our School.
However, we will not rest on our laurels.
The world is ever changing and we must continue to change with it.
Change is inevitable but what will not change at the School of
Business is the tradition of achieving with excellence.
