Accounting

The Department of accounting was established in 1972. The primary objective of the department is to prepare for careers in professional accountancy. Two degrees are offered: (1) the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a major in Accounting, and (2) the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA).

The Department of Accounting is committed to excellence in accounting education. Full-time faculty members in the department are Certified Public Accountants and/or hold doctoral degrees in accounting. Emphasis is placed on quality instruction. In additional faculty members keep abreast of changes in the accounting profession by engaging in research and other scholarly activities. The faculty is consistently engaged in intellectual activities and produces intellectual contributions in accountancy in its quest to tie accounting theory to accounting practice and foster the development of accountancy as a discipline. The intellectual activities are closely aligned with the department's teaching mission and the needs of professional accountants.

Accounting graduates have a variety career opportunities, including holding responsible positions in accounting firms including the "big six" in industry with many of the nation's largest corporations, federal and state government and with a variety of other agencies and in education as accounting professors. There are over 275 B.B.A. accounting majors and 25 MPA majors. Approximately 40 B.B.A. 10 MPA students graduate each academic year.

Business Education and Administration

The Department of Business Education and Administration Services offers two undergraduate degrees and on advanced degree program; the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree with a major in Office Administration, the Bachelor of Science Education (B.S Ed) degree with major in Business Education and the Master of Business Education (MB Ed) degree.

The Department's mission is to promote excellence. It provides opportunities to prepare students for competitive careers in office administration and secondary business teaching by providing an understanding of the constantly changing and increasing automated business environment. The curriculum is designed to enhance professional competencies specific to the organizational principles, goals and needs of business, and increase students understanding of the contributions of technology to the achievement of business goals.

The program encourages students to grow personally and acquire professional competence in order to initiate and succeed in productive careers in business education and office administration. Develop communication skills and provide training situations and activities that help students work competently with individuals from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds in the urban community.

Economics, Finance and General Business

The Department of Economics, Finance and General Business offers students a roster of high quality courses that lead to the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in economics, finance and business administration. The program provides students with the training required to perform the tasks of policy-making economists, particularly business planners. The curriculum emphasizes quantitative analytic skills that allow the practiontioner to apply sophisticated techniques of forecasting and modeling business activities.

The goals of the department are to improve retention and performance of all students; improve career and internship placement opportunities among eligible students; maintain a high quality and productive faculty; provide quality instruction in economics and business courses which will prepare students for their chosen careers or graduate school; and improve student advisement.

Management and Marketing

Management and Marketing consulting has become one of the fastest growing fields in this decade. As organizations continue to restructure, there will be increased demand for talented and creative problem solvers who can deliver expert knowledge to all types of industries. The goal of marketing is to satisfy an organizations significant stakeholders, including employees and customers, by providing quality goods and services at fair prices. The Management and Marketing Department offers courses that reflect a changing business world and a need for consulting skills, both externally and internally. The marketing courses provide hands on understanding of implementing the marketing aspects of business strategy.

Therefore, the mission of the Department of Management and Marketing is to continue its commitment of graduating students who are prepared to enter the global marketplace. Preparing students to become entrepreneurs is a continuous thrust coupled with preparing students to enter graduate schools. The department is committed to providing broad access to the management and marketing programs and services without sacrificing the access of historically disadvantaged populations.

The primary goals of the Department are to develop the student's understanding of the basic structure and process of the management and marketing disciplines; to develop the ability to analyze and deal with management and marketing problems; and opportunities and to prepare students for entrepreneurship and or to be employed in professional positions in the areas.
